this is my art
My artwork is a drawing of my laptop with the back end facing towards the viewer. On the laptop there is a Sly Cooper logo sticker in the middle of the top face of the laptop. There is also a pair of earbuds that are plugged in and splayed on top of the laptop with the earbuds themselves crossing over each-other to form a curvy "x" shape. I made this artwork using pencil and drawing my laptop by eye. I first started out by drawing it in my sketchbook to see how I wanted it to look. After getting the look that I wanted, I started to re-draw it onto a final piece of paper. However, after drawing it I didn't like the way it looked because it didn't match my original sketch and I liked my original sketch more. To get around this issue, I used onion skin to trace my original sketch from my sketchbook and transferred the graphite onto a different piece of paper. It worked, but the lines were a little faint so I drew back over them to make all of them darker and more visible. My idea behind this artwork was to show balance while also making the drawing about something that I'm interested in. So, I chose my laptop because I love technology and my laptop is a huge part to my everyday life. I also chose to use my earbuds as the balance because it works really well with the laptop and because it symbolizes how much I love music and how music is also a major part of my everyday life. My goal for this artwork was to improve my drawing/sketching skills by drawing semi-complicated objects. I have wanted to improve my drawing skills for a long time and the best way to do so is to practice and challenge yourself when you practice, so that's what I set out to do with this artwork. Overall, I actually like how my artwork turned out. I obviously know that there are a handful of mistakes in the drawing, however it is much much better than I originally thought it was going to be. I'm not bothered that it's not hyper-realistic because the fact that it just largely looks like my laptop and earbuds is a big win for me.

During the process of making this artwork I worked on the express and observe Studio Habits of Mind. I worked on being able to think of ways to create an artwork that conveys a certain meaning and it led me to creating this. I wanted my artwork to show one of the things that I'm most interested in, which is technology. That's why I wanted to make an artwork about my laptop. I also worked on learning to observe more closely to certain details than I did before. In doing so I was able to add in certain details that I normally wouldn't have done like having my earbuds laying in certain directions and having their shapes match to those directions.

I used observe by not only looking at the examples on each guide paper to see what they did, but I also observed by watching a YouTube tutorial and seeing each step to creating the final product. I also used engage and persist by taking what I observed previously from both the guide papers and the YouTube tutorial and using that to try re-creating the art myself in my sketchbook. |
